Title I Programs

Plaza Elementary School has three Title I programs which supplement the math and language arts programs:
1. Extended Day Kindergarten Children in this program receive an additional half-day of instruction. This gives them a full day of school with additional instruction in the areas of math and language arts.
2. Reading Recovery and Literacy Groups Reading Recovery is a nationally recognized program for identified first grade students. The first graders receive a 30 minute one-on-one reading lesson daily. This intensive instruction is provided by specially trained Reading Recovery teachers for a duration of 12 to 20 weeks. Other identified first graders receive reading and writing assistance through literacy groups.
3. Resource Reading and Math Support Students receive instruction in reading and math which supplements the regular reading and math programs. Identified students receive small group assistance which is designed to meet their learning needs. The Title I Resource Reading Program and Math Support programs serve students in grades 2 – 5.

Title I Parental Involvement Policy

Plaza Elementary School’s Mission Statement

“Our mission, in cooperation with family and community, is to ensure every child maximizes his or her intellectual potential by providing multiple opportunities for mastery of literacy and content.”

Parental Involvement Policy

An exemplary school recognizes the importance of establishing effective partnerships with the larger community – the parents. It strives to develop an allegiance to the ownership in the school.

The Parental Involvement Policy is a way to outline how parents and the school can work together to provide the best education possible for the children in our community. To ensure Plaza Elementary School is exemplary, the parents and teachers will work together to:

· Distribute and complete surveys about interests and needs concerning the children’s education
.
· Hold an annual meeting to determine the objectives, activities, and programs for the year

· Involve parents in the planning and reviewing of special programs

· Provide information about planned Title I programs

· Present educational programs that meet student and parent needs in math and language arts

· Share responsibility for student achievement
