Vision Statement
In order for Plaza Elementary School to be exemplary, it must have a clear sense of the goals it is trying to accomplish, the characteristics of the school it seeks to become, and the necessary contributions the various stakeholders must make in order to transform vision to reality. To that end, the following vision statement is offered.

I. Curriculum and Instruction
An exemplary school provides a diverse and balanced curriculum. This balanced program stimulates intellectual curiosity and requires students to demonstrate that they are learning how to learn to become productive and effective citizens. In such a school:
· The curriculum incorporates a variety of powerful learning experiences which allow students to solve problems, think creatively and critically, and perceive connections between school activities and the real world.
· Instruction begins where the student is and moves each student forward based upon their individual needs.
· Technology is integrated as a means to achieve specific curriculum outcomes.
· Assessments are used to determine instructional success and direct future needs.

II. Faculty and Staff
An exemplary school can only be as good as the personnel employed there. Therefore, the administration is committed to recruiting and retaining individuals with expertise and commitments to their respective assignments. In such a school:
· All faculty and staff have high expectations for student success.
· All faculty and staff work individually and collaboratively to meet state and district standards.
· All faculty and staff demonstrate their support of and dedication to the vision and shared commitments of the school.
· All faculty and staff collaborate with one another on a regular basis on curriculum, instruction, individual students, and school improvement issues.
· All faculty and staff model the importance of lifelong learning by their commitment to professional growth.

III. Climate
An exemplary school provides an orderly yet inviting climate that is conducive to learning and protects instructional time. In such a school:
· Students are safe.
· Students work in a positive environment.
· Teachers and staff have high behavioral standards for themselves and their students.
· Recognition and celebration of individual efforts and achievements are evident.
· A well-maintained physical facility meets the needs of students and the community and reflects pride in the school.
· Students feel comfortable interacting with teachers, staff, and administration.

IV. Community Partnership
An exemplary school recognizes the importance of establishing effective partnerships with the larger community – parents. It strives to develop an allegiance to the ownership in the school. In such a school:
· The home and community strongly interact with the school.
· Parents participate in an active, supportive manner to promote the success of their children.

V. Students
In the final analysis, the effectiveness of an exemplary school is based on the conduct, character, and achievement of its students. In such a school:
· Students accept responsibility for their learning, decisions, and actions
· Students demonstrate a desire to learn.
· Students work to their full potential.
· Students conduct themselves in a way that promotes a safe, orderly and positive school climate.
Students respect the rights of others.
